Irene Demers of Colorado Springs is our 2023-2025 Colorado State Treasurer. As Treasurer, she is responsible for all monies of the State Court received from the State Secretary, according to procedural guidelines; pays all disbursements of the State Court; and performs all duties as assigned by the State Regent and/or as listed in the Procedures Manual. She has been a member of Catholic Daughters for over five years. She is presently serving as Treasurer of Court Our Lady of Peace #2728, Woodland Park, CO for her second term of two years.
Irene takes pride in her being a “Catholic Daughter” throughout her life. She taught catechesis for many years, and she and her family hosted Ave Maria House in Moosup, CT under the Ministry of the Handicapped, Diocese of Norwich, CT for four years. They created a family environment for five developmentally and/or physically disabled individuals, along with one woman and a mother and son who were victims of domestic violence. At one time, they were a household of 20, which included their family of 9, with the oldest away in college.
Irene describes herself as a late bloomer, and started college in her 40s. She earned a Masters Degree in Social Work and worked in that field until retirement. Irene is a Vincentian, being actively involved in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Holy Family Catholic Church Conference, Port St. Lucie, FL and at Holy Apostles Catholic Church Conference, Colorado Springs, CO, serving neighbors-in-need. She is also a member of the Confraternity of Our Lady, Mother of Perpetual Help; Seven Sister Apostolate and Holy Apostles Catholic Church Choir. Irene has eight children, 17 grandchildren, and presently 15 great-grandchildren (another one is due in the summer). She was blessed to participate in a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in September 2022. She enjoys visiting family and has a goal to lovingly make quilts for all of them. She is now working on her 14th great-grandson’s quilt.
